EduPlus is the educational media arm of ET Edu, a part of the Electronic Times Media Group, established in December 2018 with the goal of nurturing key talents for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
EduPlus provides high-quality educational information to a diverse range of educational ecosystem members, including students, parents, teachers, and professors.
In today's interview, we meet PD Jung Ha-jung, who primarily handles the production of short-form videos on platforms like YouTube and Instagram.
Despite being an experienced video editing expert who is more familiar with Premiere Pro, PD Jung is utilizing Videostew for producing Shorts content.
Why did they choose Videostew, and how are they actually using it?
Let's dive into PD Jung Ha-jung's story through the interview!
Focus on Planning, Not Editing for Shorts Content
Hello, Iβm PD Jung Ha-jung from EduPlus.
I'm here for this interview because we are currently using Videostew, but when we first started operating our YouTube channel, I was using Premiere Pro to create Shorts.
However, as I had to separately import audio and prepare all the necessary visual materials, the editing process consumed so much time that it became difficult to devote enough time to the crucial content planning.
So, internally, we raised the idea of finding a tool other than Premiere Pro that would allow us to handle editing more efficiently and focus on planning.
That's when we discovered Videostew, and after a few test runs, I thought we could make good use of it.
Now, our video production process for distributing content using Videostew has become well-established.
It takes about three hours in total to complete a video, including script writing, and out of that, the actual editing time with Videostew is only about an hour.
Thanks to this, I can now invest more time in content planning, which ultimately allows me to create more engaging and high-quality content.
Get Started with Videostew Without a Steep Learning Curve
One of the biggest advantages of Videostew is that it's incredibly easy to use. From my experience, it's quite similar to Canva. After using it just once or twice, I quickly got the hang of it.
At first, figuring out where all the features were was a bit unfamiliar, but after that, it was smooth sailing. The TTS (Text-to-Speech) and GIF features, in particular, have been a huge help in reducing my work time.
I often use fun memes in shorts videos. Most of the GIFs I use are from the library provided by Videostew, and for those iconic memes that pop into my mind while scripting, I find and upload them separately from the internet.
< EduPlus's Use of Memes >
If I were working with a tool like Premiere Pro, Iβd have to create the TTS separately, search and upload each GIF, and edit them by time, but with Videostew, I don't need to do all that, making the work much more efficient.
Short-form Videos Are Key to Becoming 'Engaging Media'
These days, almost every platform needs to leverage videos. That's why we place a great emphasis on video content.
At EduPlus, we aim to be 'engaging media', which is why we particularly focus on short-form video content.
Short-form content is highly effective for branding because it tends to get great exposure. It's all about catching the algorithm, right? Timely content also tends to garner good views.
Plus, getting quick reactions from viewers really helps improve our content.
Instant feedback through views and comments allows us to enhance our content, which has been a huge boost in our journey to becoming a 'media that reaches out'.
Providing Quality Information in Various Formats
We're currently seeing great results through YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
Our YouTube Shorts are consistently hitting a few thousand views, and one of our recent Instagram Reels even surpassed 1 million views. It's truly a joyful and grateful achievement.
< Running a channel with topics that might interest students >
However, Shorts are not our ultimate goal. We are already practicing 'news that finds you' through newsletters and KakaoTalk Plus Friends.
We particularly pour a lot of effort into our newsletter, which is published every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We curate the most important educational articles of the week and present them in a way thatβs easy and fun for our readers to understand.
Our goal is to reach 1,000 YouTube channel subscribers by the end of this year. After that, we plan to expand our content into long-form videos and podcasts.
Our ultimate goal is to provide quality information to all members of the education ecosystem through various formats and channels.
We've been using Videostu from the very beginning of our YouTube channel journey and we are very satisfied with it! We hope you continue to develop more great features and look forward to our continued partnership!
We kindly ask for your continued support for EduPlus.
In Conclusion of the Interview
This is Jun from Videostew. I first 'discovered' EduPlus thanks to the YouTube algorithm.
Perhaps it's because I watch a lot of shorts like these, but it popped up in my feed. But honestly, just seeing it on YouTube doesn't make it easy to tell if it was made with Videostew or not.
However, the content was really good. First of all, the writing was incredibly engaging, and the use of GIFs was phenomenal. It was the ideal type of customer we dream of at Videostew. (The fact that all work from idea to shorts completion takes just 3 hours was also astonishing.)
