Are You Sure You’re Even Choosing the Right Type of “Free Video Site”?

You want to start making video content, but you’ve got no budget and monthly fees for paid tools feel a bit painful. So you search for “free video sites” and… instantly feel lost. You’re not alone.

The thing is, most of the information you’ll find under that keyword is basically the same. Lists of stock libraries like Pixabay, Pexels, etc., with a couple of bullet points: “commercial use allowed,” “no copyright worries.” And that’s about it.

But here’s the problem: these sites give you video sources – they don’t actually make your videos for you. So it’s perfectly natural to feel confused. The phrase “free video site” is mixing up two completely different needs under one label.

“Free video sites” actually fall into two big categories

1. Stock library sites that provide video clips

These are places where you download clips to use in your editing. Even if you don’t shoot anything yourself, you can grab high-quality footage of nature scenes, city streets, office environments, and more — all for free.

The best-known platforms are Pixabay, Pexels, and Coverr. Among these, the ones used most often in real-world work are definitely Pixabay and Pexels. You can search in Korean, download in Full HD or higher for free, use the clips commercially, and you don’t even need to credit the source.

But these sites come with some very real limitations. Once you start using them, you’ll notice that a huge portion of the search results are set in foreign environments. Try searching for something like “Korean people working in an office” and you’ll barely get any usable clips. Content related to Korean business or everyday life is especially scarce. (A practical tip: if you add asian to your search term, you’ll at least get slightly more relevant results.)

When you’re creating content for a Korean audience, it’s good to know upfront that relying only on stock libraries has its limits.

Second, sites that actually create the video for you

Now we’re talking about platforms that really fit the label of "make videos for free." Instead of just downloading source files, these services let you edit and complete your video entirely within the platform.

Tools like Canva, Vrew, Videostew, and Adobe Express fall into this category. Each has its own personality. Canva is design-centric and great for short social media videos, while Vrew shines at automatic subtitle generation. I’ll talk a bit more about Videostew in detail later on.

But you really need to check if "free" is actually free

Most so-called free video makers aren’t 100% free.

They usually have both free and paid plans, and only part of the features are available for free. What exactly should you check? Mainly watermark usage, export resolution limits, and monthly usage time.

To give a few real examples: some tools let you create videos for free, but slap a watermark on the exported file. Others only allow, say, 5 minutes of editing time per month on the free plan.

And some solutions only allow exports in HD or lower on the free tier, which means the quality might feel a bit disappointing when you upload to YouTube or Instagram.

So when you’re choosing a free video-making site, I strongly recommend checking these three things first:

  • Does it add a watermark?
  • What’s the maximum export resolution?
  • Is there a monthly usage limit?
  • And yes, we should talk about Videostew

Full disclosure: we built this service ourselves, so we might be a little biased. (But honestly, that’s only because we’ve made it really, really good.)

With Videostew, the basic idea is simple: you drop in your text or blog post, and the AI automatically turns it into a video for you.

Instead of hunting down and stitching together every single video clip yourself, you just drop in a script and the right stock footage is automatically matched for you—subtitles and AI voiceover included. And of course, these days, on-context images are generated by AI too.

Videostew gives you a 14-day free trial when you first sign up. During this period, you can use the service exactly like a paid plan. You can even upload to YouTube with zero copyright worries. And no, there’s no watermark either.

If you check out how to edit videos with Videostew, you’ll see exactly how it all works in practice.

Whether you need a stock footage site or a full production tool depends entirely on how you plan to use video.

If you’re already comfortable with editing tools like Premiere and just need raw assets, Pexels will probably cover your needs.

But if you want to go from rough idea to finished video in one place, a production tool is far more efficient. And if you’re working on your short-form video marketing strategy, choosing the right production platform becomes even more critical.

When you’re producing content on a recurring basis, the level of automation your tool offers essentially determines your productivity.

    An episode from the field

Last year, I had a conversation with a real estate brokerage owner who was producing real-estate-related video content every week.

At first, they were pulling clips from Pexels and editing everything in Premiere, but keeping up a schedule of just one video per week was exhausting.

After switching to Videostew, one of the leading text-based automation tools, they were finally able to upload one video a day with just 30 minutes of work. The founder told us, "Now I can spend the energy I used to waste on editing on planning instead."

That’s when I was reminded again: the tool you choose isn’t just a cost decision—it can completely change the way you run your content operation. That’s exactly what Videostew keeps insisting on: redefining your entire video workflow.

We also cover this in detail in our guide to slide-based video editing software, so it’s absolutely worth a read!

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

    Q. Which is better, Pixabay or Pexels?

    A. Both are free to use and allow commercial use. The main difference is in content variety. Pexels tends to have richer footage of people, while Pixabay offers a lot of nature and landscape clips. In real-world production, most creators switch back and forth between the two.

    Q. Can I upload videos made with free stock footage sites to YouTube?

    A. Yes. Stock sites like Pixabay and Pexels generally allow commercial use, so uploading to YouTube is fine. However, each individual asset may have slightly different license terms, so it’s safest to check the license page before you use it.

    Q. Will videos made with free video creation tools have a watermark?

    A. It depends on the tool. Some tools force a watermark on videos in their free plan. So before you commit, it’s a good idea to test the export result on the free tier. Just check two things: whether there’s a watermark, and whether the video quality is acceptable.

    Q. Where can I find Korean video footage?

    A. Unfortunately, there aren’t many Korean background clips available on overseas stock sites. If you have your own footage, that’s always the best source. If not, a more realistic approach is to use text-based AI video creation tools so you can rely less on stock footage in the first place. (Of course, if you have enough time and budget, you could generate each context-friendly clip using generative AI tools like Veo or Kling 😄)

    Q. I’m a complete beginner. Where should I start if I want to make videos for free?

    A. The fastest route is an AI video maker that turns your blog posts or scripts into videos automatically. You don’t need editing experience, and you don’t have to hunt for separate assets. Make the most of free trials and actually test a few tools yourself to see which one matches your workflow.

    Wrapping up

Not all “free video sites” are created equal. Some only give you raw assets, while others actually build the video for you. Start by distinguishing between these two types, and you’ll find the right tool much faster.

If you also read our post on fully automating text-to-video creation, you’ll get a clear picture of how to convert text content into video with 100% automation in a real-world workflow.

There are plenty of tools that let you get started without worrying about cost. But if you care about productivity, the first step is to decide why you’re making videos and how often you’ll be creating them. Once that’s clear, the right tool (and the right workflow) becomes much easier to find.

Then all you have to do is pick the right tool for the job! So let me wrap this up with one last little promo message.
